The country shut down in March 2020 because of the Covid 19 pandemic. The casinos in Las Vegas were not spared. Tony Carnevale, a gallery consultant, and I decided to photograph the bleakness and darkness of the Las Vegas Strip. Below are some of the photographs. All of the photographs are signed limited edition prints only. Please let me know if you are interested in purchasing a print.
Recently, we released an e-book, “Las Vegas Shutdown 2020” that documents our journey photographing the empty Las Vegas Strip and Casinos during the shutdown. The e-book can be purchased on Amazon, Barnes & Noble and other e-book retailers.
Hope & Happiness
We shot this wedding photograph during the height of the Las Vegas Covid 19 shutdown to show that there is still Hope amid all of the despair during the shutdown. This photograph is very unique because there are no tourists on the street and Caesars Palace spelled out the word “HOPE” in the windows of their building. Truly, a very unique photograph!
Flaming – O
This photograph was taken during the 2020 Las Vegas Covid 19 shutdown. The effect was created all in camera by a combination of a long shutter with some camera movement during the exposure. While there are literally millions of photographs of the Las Vegas casinos this one really stands out as unique and as a collector’s item.
Las Vegas Strip Streaks
This photograph of the Las Vegas Strip is a long exposure composite of traffic going by at the intersection of the Las Vegas Strip and Flamingo Avenue (one of the busiest intersections in the country). It’s a very different view of the Strip!
The Paris Hot Air Balloon
This photograph was taken during the 2020 Las Vegas COVID 19 shutdown in April when the Strip was pretty deserted. This shot was done entirely in camera using a combination of a long shutter and camera movement during the exposure. It looks like I was standing in the middle of the road but I actually took it from the sidewalk. Another unique shot of the Las Vegas Strip.
Flamingo Hotel – Main Entrance
This photograph of the main lobby of the Flamingo Hotel in Las Vegas was taken during the 2020 Las Vegas Covid 19 shutdown. My partner, gallery consultant Tony Carnevale, and I were given access to photograph the interior of the hotel while it was shutdown. That is why you don’t see any people in the photograph. This unique look is the result of using a very wide angle lens. There are no other photos of the interior of the hotel like this. If you like very unique photographs of Las Vegas hotels, this one is for you.
Color Me Joe
This photograph of the iconic Joe Lewis statue inside Caesar’s Palace was taken during the 2020 Covid 19 shutdown. We had special access to photograph inside Caesars Palace for five days while it was shutdown and this is one of our collector’s favorite photographs.
Bugsy’s Bar
Bugsy’s Bar inside the Flamingo Hotel is normally a very busy place. This eerie photograph was taken during the Covid 19 shutdown. The whole casino looked like something out of a spooky science fiction movie.
Paris is Silent
This is a photograph of the custodian statue at the Paris Hotel during the Covid 19 shutdown. Even during the shutdown, he was still working!
